She looked at me and said, “I thought we were on the gold standard.”
Well, we are not. The following short video explains the basics of the gold standard and compares it to the modern system ruled by the federal reserve.

Didn’t get to watch the video (the internet in my hostel is slow as fuck), but I’m definitely in favor of the gold standard. One of the biggest problems in our economy is inflation, especially as it relates to foreign currencies. Going back to the gold standard would be a great idea, although the initial adjustment of the economy might be a little troubling.
